As well as having over 15 years experience of working with children in the education sector, I have recently completed an additional qualification in working with children from the Clifton Practice. This provided further insight into the neuroscience of brain development in young people.
I work directly with the young person and will provide frequent updates to the parent/carer.
Each session starts with a question 'what's been good?'. This provieds a positive, familiar jumping off point and builds rapport. The session will remain solution focused and goal oriented, but is flexible. I will follow the child or young persons lead.
The session ends with hypnosis. Again, I will ask the young person or child to stay in one area for this, however the use of fidget toys or even colouring in can be used. We know children can listen well while being physically active.
It is important that the parent or carer is part of the initial consultation to understand the language and strategies I will be using with the child.
The sessions with the child or young person are confidential, unless there is a safe guarding issue. I will provide the parent/carer with updates, including a 6 week indepth update.
Future Minds is the corporate name for the work I do with local charities, schools and youth projects. I will happily work with groups of children and young people discussing mental health and providing support, strategies and understanding.
